I’m a Berlin-based writer, director and producer interested in female-driven genre films.
My name is OLIVIA STUBBE. I work as a Writer, Director and in Production.
I grew up in Leipzig, a child of the 80’s. After graduating I spent a year working and travelling in New Zealand. I read Philosophy and English at the University of Potsdam and went on to achieve a Master's degree in Philosophy at the Humboldt University of Berlin. My thesis dealt with the reality of emotions in fictional contexts, such as film or literature. This was an unusual topic for the otherwise neuroscience-adjacent branch of philosophy I was interested in back then and made for a very interesting research time.
I knew that I did not want to stay in the world of academia, however, and started interning in different theatres during while still being a student. I worked in the directing department on several productions at the Berlin SCHAUBÜHNE and GORKI theatre and I worked under both Friederike Heller and Jorinde Dröse.
To deepen my understanding of the theatre and of working with actors, I applied for the “Acting Shakespeare & Contemporary Theater” course at the renowned GUILDHALL SCHOOL OF MUSIC AND DRAMA in London. I was very lucky to get one of these coveted spots. After completing my academic studies, I subsequently entered the film and television world in 2016.
I like knowing how things work and so I specialised in production. Everybody wants to be creative (I’m no exception), but few people like learning how to organise the herd of cats that is a production team. So with my one woman enterprise, GREY FEATHER FILMS, I am proud to work alongside a diverse array of writers, directors and producers on and help bring our projects into existence. My work as a producer and line producer ranges from short films, music videos, social media clips, web series to full documentary feature films. There is wide array of topics and genres in this work.
As a writer and director, however, I am primarily interested in genre films with a strong female focus. I am increasingly concentrating on developing my own material.
I am a proud member of the BVR (Bundesverband Regie) as well as WIFT Germany (Women in Film and Television).
